Scott A. Smith, CFP® professional, founder of Conscious Investment Services

Scott A. Smith · Founder

About Scott

The interest started early. The conviction came later.

Scott’s interest in finance began when his grandmother bought him stock in his teens — and from there that interest grew. He went on to graduate from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in Finance, Real Estate and Law, with a concentration in Securities Analysis.

Scott worked with a major banking institution, successfully managing client accounts and relationships. But after contemplating what type of companies he was investing in, he eventually opened his own firm — to have the ability to spend more time with clients, and to integrate environmental and social research into the financial analysis process.

That approach has been called Socially Responsible Investing (SRI), Environmental and Social Governance (ESG), and Conscious Capitalism. The label has changed over the years. The work has not.

When not working, Scott enjoys spending time with his family and staying active with surfing, yoga, and golfing.

Why independent

No product shelf to fill.

Independence is not a slogan; it is a structural fact. There is no parent company’s fund family to favor, no proprietary line to hit a number on, and no incentive to keep you in a model portfolio because it is simpler to administer.

It also means the time goes to clients and research — which is the whole reason the firm exists.
