1688 - Quakers refusing to invest in the slave trade.
70's – Environment took center stage.
80’s – S Africa -- SRI victory to help end of Apartheid with business and investment groups pulling out of S Africa until they were serious about ending Apartheid. Nelson Mandela opened the way to reintegrate society and business and investment groups agreed to support them at that time.
90’s Product Safety, Workplace and Consumer Protection
2000’s Corporate scandals and the Financial Crisis
Financial crisis 2008. Enron, Worldcom and others caught engaging in large-scale fraud. More mainstream investors become concerned with corporate governance issues.
2010’s Divestment movement grows – Sierra Club foundation divests from fossil fuels. (did not take huge losses that coal industry companies have experienced. ) Many Universities divest.
